My career as a foreign photojournalist correspondent took off in 1994 with Agence France Presse in Guatemala. With a background in cultural anthropology, my enduring passion has always revolved around people and their extraordinary stories.

During ten years in Guatemala, I met and befriended remarkable individuals driven by purpose and visions I had quietly held in my heart – the desire to make a meaningful impact on this earth. Among them were both ordinary journalists and famous figures like Rigoberta Menchu, Ramiro de Leon Carpio, and Jennifer Harbury.

Rigoberta Menchu received the Nobel Peace Prize, while Ramiro de Leon Carpio was elected president of Guatemala. Jennifer Harbury's courageous exposé of corruption created unprecedented waves. These outstanding Guatemalan journalists and the now renowned public figures continue to be a source of inspiration for me to this day.

Our first group journey to Guatemala as a BETA test, began primarily to enhance our journey management. It turned out to be a remarkable growth experience as a leader with many humbling moments.

The subsequent trips, one to Guatemala and another to Cuba turned out to be the last adventures before the world was gripped by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Guatemala today is not what it was 20 years ago. With the signing of the Peace Accords, it has become much more accessible, allowing travelers to explore its abundant beauty and attractions with ease. While Lake Atitlan, often hailed as the world's most beautiful lake, draws thousands of visitors, our journeys also uncover hidden gems unknown to many.
