Photo Workshops 2024
March 20 -March 29, 2024
Laughing Planet Journeys and Photography kickstarts this special trip with the focus on the exquisite colonial town Antigua, a UNESCO Heritage site. All Saints’ Day we visit a nearby village to photograph the celebration of those who have passed on in a mindblowing cheerful festival of kites. Some of these are as tall as two stories tall. Mexico observes the Day of the Dead but Guatemala honors the dead with paper kites. We return for our last night in Antigua before heading to the massive Lake Atitlan which Aldous Huxley proclaimed as the “most beautiful lake in the world”. It’s truly an amazing experience that you’ll be telling stories about for years to come. Our trip is sprinkled with fun editorial critiques. The best way to become a better photographer is to share images.
ARRIVAL. On the 20th of March pick you up at the main airport at determined times and drive 45 minutes to the colonial town of Antigua. You get a chance to settle in for three nights in the bustling colonial UNESCO World Heritage.
After our meet-and-greet, you'll have time to wander through some of the colonial streets.
Physical Level
If you have physical concerns send Sherrlyn a note and she'll give you some options. We get around in a private van, (maybe a short bus ride for the experience), motorboats, and tuk-tuks.
Options include a sunrise hike above Lake Atitlan or paddling across the lake in the cool mornings with your camera. You can choose your level of activity including swinging in a hammock.
Because we keep our group small we do many things together. You can always choose to hang out in hammocks, visit cafes, and roam the streets to photograph. We don't want anyone to feel they can't go because of physical limitations so email and we can discuss if it's right for you or not.
We are always flexible to your needs and to the rhythm of the Guatemalan people. We stick to our agenda as much as possible but we will be flexible so as to be in the best place at the right time.
